You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.
And you know what you know.
You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.
by Dr. Seuss
I like this poem a lot. I found this poem on a "poetry for children website", so I knew that I would like it. I also like this poem because it is about choice. This country was born by people wanting to be able to make their own choices. The poem says that you should not let anybody tell you what to do, but if you make a wrong choice then you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Despite the fact that it is a Dr. Seuss poem, it was a good analysis and connection to US history by Malcolm. I grew up reading Dr. Seuss, but never thought about it farther than the pictures.
great analysis :)
I think malcolm should get points taken away because he copied me in doing a Dr. Seuss poem. copy cat! haha jk but I like this poem and most of Dr. Seuess's work because he puts a playful spin on a raw reality. One could maybe argue that a person is a combination of traits inherited from both the parent of the offspring and the enviroment in which the offspring is exposed to, therefore, it is almost as if the offspring's direction is determined. I believe this assumption to be fairly true, but not entirely significant. Even if a person has been molded into an uncapable human being, they still have a brain in their head and feet in their shoes and those feet can either lead them to their success or demise. Everyone is different and can seize their different opportunities.
